From Scratch OS

• It must boot
• It must be original
• It must be able to print "Hello World"

Based Off OS

• It must boot
• It must be original
• It must be able to edit/create a .txt file.

Where are all the guides?

We may have a limited number of guides (Want to make one? Make a pr here). But there are many excellent guides for any OS related thing online for you to explore. Just Google it.

How is scoring determined?

Your OS will be graded in 3 categories, 0-5 stars.

Categories

From Scratch OS

• Technicality (How technical is the OS)
• Functionality (How functional is the OS)
• UX (How easy and intuitive is the OS)

Based Off OS

• Technicality (How technical are the modified parts of the OS)
• Originality (How different is this OS, and does it fix a meaningful issue or meaningfully differentiate itself from the base OS)
• UX (How easy and intuitive are the modified parts of the OS)

How do I track time?

Use Hackatime

How do I track the time spent in VMs?

You can use Lapse to track time spent in other programs that don't have Hackatime integration.

What are Bounties?

Bounties are a way to earn extra rewards for your OS by completing certain tasks.

Example: Create a custom Desktop Environment +500 coins!

When does this start?

14th March 2026 - 1st June 2026

How do you earn Boot Coins?

For every hour you work on your OS, you get 30 Boot Coins. You can get a multiplier based on your OS Level (From Scratch, Based On) and how your OS gets graded. You can also get more rewards from completing bounties.
